Ten years into my career as a product designer, I've never stayed in my lane. My work starts before the UI does, with defining what gets built and why. I dig up the problems users haven't yet put into words, then own the decisions that follow: requirements, data structure, product direction, working alongside PMs and engineers the whole way. Design execution and the strategic thinking behind it aren't separate jobs to me. I own both.
